HELPING – HAND TO LANKA MAHILA SAMITHIE
Lanka Mahila Samithie is the oldest NGO of women in Sri Lanka. It was founded about eight decades ago to open the door at for the women in Sri Lanka to participate in development programmes launched particularly to bring about upliftment of the physical living conditions of the villagers in Sri Lanka. The head quarters of this organization is in Kaduwela which is about 10 k.m. away from the Colombo City. Mrs. Ranee Herath who was the President of Lanka Mahila Samithiya took a keen interest in all these programmes. On her request to Sri Lanka Belgium Association, we managed to receive a donation of Rs. 700,000/= in 2004 from Adoptie Sri Lanka Belgium.
This money was utilised to rehabilitate about 120 centres of Mahila Samithie at village level which had been almost neglected due to lack of funds. Most of these centres became active with this donation. A second donation of Rs. 665,000/= was made by Adoptie Sri Lanka in 2011 to assist in the construction of a Day-Care-Centre for Children in Kaduwela area.
