REHABILITATION OF SCIENCE LABORATORIES
We all have observed that most of the students who continue higher studies select the field of science subjects for advance level GCE. The idea is to become a doctor or an engineer in the future. Most of the parents drive their children to do science with the same expectation in mind.
There are some glaring problem that the students from remote village areas face. Most of the schools in remote areas do not have qualified science teachers. This is a leading problem.
The other problem is the non availability of fully equipped science laboratories. Having observed this unfortunate situation in some schools in the Polonnnaruwa district, we brought this to the notice of our Belgium donors. They promptly donated Rs. 900,000 in 2010 to rehabilitate the laboratories in two schools in Polonnaruwa district. The two selected schools were the Manampitiya Tamil Vidyalaya and Vijayaraja Vidyalaya in Onegama. Both these schools were targets of attack of the terrorists. A complete set of required furniture, complete set of equipment recommended by the department of education and the necessary chemicals were supplied for both schools. In the year 2011 we selected two others schools from Polonnaruwa.
They were Parakrama Samudra Maha vidyalaya in Polonnaruwa and Sevanapitiya Tamil Maha Vidyalaya in Welikanda. The donation from Belgium was Rs. 81, 0000. All the items for these two school laboratories were handed over to the school authorities on 16.10.2011. There were two simple but attractive ceremonies attended by Hon. Maithipala Sirisena the Ministry of Health and M.P for Polonnnaruwa District. This project is one of the most popular projects launched by the SLBA.
