ASSISTANCE TO TSUNAMI VICTIMS
The unexpected disasters caused by the tsunami on 26th December 2004 which seriously affected a large number of South Asian Countries was a serious subject of attention among, most of philanthropic countries in the world. Belgium was certainly one country which rushed to the scene of this disaster immediately without losing any time. Adoptie Sri Lanka Belgium VZW requested all Voluntary Organizations working with there in Sri Lanka to assist, the tsunami victims. Financial assistance as required was made available by Adoptie Sri Lanka.
One contribution we managed to make to the assistance program to Tsunami victims was the construction of the pre-school in Galagoda area in Ahungalle. This Pre-School was intended to house the school going children of the victims of the train disaster caused by the tsunami in the locality called Peraliya. The cost of this project was Rs.3,400,000/= which was granted by an Organization called R.O.C. through Adoptie Sri Lanka Belgium. This School building has the capacity to accommodate nearly 100 children.
