NEW HOUSES FOR TSUNAMI VICTIMS
Adotie Sri Lanka Belgium insisted that Sri Lanka Belgium Association goes further and takes action to construct new houses to be handed over to the Tsunami victim families. This matter was discussed by us with the Government Agent (GA) of the Kalutara District who allocated a Land in Dodangoda to constructed ten houses. These ten houses as instructed by the G.A. were for some families in Payagala area which was destroyed by the tsunami. The donation for this project from Belgium was 40,000 Euros which was equal to little over Rs.6,000,000/= The ten houses were handed over to ten families recommended by the G.A. on 6th March 2007 by Late. Mr. Geston Dillen then President of Adoptie Sri Lanka Belgium. Additional domestic furniture was given to all ten new families worth 2400 Euros by Mr. Gaston Dillen on 3rd January 2008. This sum of 2,400 Euros was a donation from the Brother in Law of Mr. John Van Dijck of Adoptie Sri Lanka Belgium.
Two selected families whose houses were destroyed by the tsunami in Galle and Tangalle received a donation of 2000 Euros from Adoptie Sri Lanka Belgium. Two more pre-school buildings in Ahungalle and Netolpitya were re-constructed with Belgium assistance worth 2500 Euros. The Pre-School and Vocational Training Centre situated in the coastal area of Mirissa were re-constructed using Rs. 1,600,000/= donated personally by Mr. John Van Dijck from Adoptie Sri Lanka on 17th July 2006. The school library of Balapitiya Maha Vidyalaya was completely washed away by the tsunami. A donation of Rs. 50,000 was given to assist the college to reconstructed the library.
